The vibration system in an electric car will work by harnessing the torque of the electric motor and adjusting it to the motion of the conventional car. In the U.S. and Canada, this warning is primarily provided by a warning sound that can be heard up to 30 km/h.

Activated while moving in hybrid mode

When you start your hybrid car, the system automatically switches to hybrid mode, managing energy flows accordingly. While driving, your smartphone connects to the onboard Uconnect system. You can access various applications on the 8.4-inch touchscreen while in hybrid mode. Activating while moving in hybrid mode ensures that you never run out of juice. The hybrid model is also known as “Smart Driving.”

Using the smart Hybrid Auto mode of the Cayenne E-Hybrid maximizes EV usage. This mode is available when you’re traveling in residential or built-up areas. In traffic jams, the car can also operate in pure electric mode. The electric motor acts as a generator, capturing kinetic energy and converting it into electricity. The electric motor also recharges the batteries.

Customized sound themes

Hyundai and Kia are working on a method to simulate the sound of internal combustion engines in their electric cars. While this is not currently available on the market, it will be available in November 2020. In addition to reimagined engine sounds, customers will be able to choose from a variety of sound themes. This includes a conventional engine sound, a futuristic spaceship sound, and even a combination of both.

In the early stages, sound designers designed hundreds of sounds to choose from. These sounds were evaluated and classified by user surveys. They were then applied to the actual vehicle to determine which sounds were the most pleasing. Upon selecting the best candidate, they were optimized for driving scenarios. The sound was then subjected to a sound tuning process to ensure that it was of the highest quality. The sounds were developed after extensive testing.

Passive sound generation

Active sound generation focuses on amplifying exhaust inputs and reducing high-frequency sound inside the vehicle. The app also features eight pre-set sound files and an “A Mode” option, which simulates combustion engine noises. Users can also choose a specific volume level and frequency range. To further customize the sounds of their exhaust systems, they can download different sampled sounds through a Milltek Active Sound app.

While most car enthusiasts are looking for an ‘acoustic solution’ to reduce the noise of their exhaust systems, some drivers may not be aware of Milltek’s active sound technology. The company has been designing and manufacturing car exhaust systems since the early 1980s and has always specialized in developing products for VAG vehicles. While this new technology is very promising for Hyundai owners, Milltek warns against fitting the system to an automatic gearbox as it could cause annoying engine rev range noises.
